About Us

True entrepreneurs are born and home grown with the spirit in their DNA. They are tested and purified by fire. The entrepreneurial craft for construction and real estate has run in the Shaffer family for many generations.
In August of 1955, Robert "Bob" Shaffer began working for Henry Electric in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In 1959, Bob and his wife Marney, built their first house together doing much of the work as a team. With the success of a home build behind them, Bob and Marney started their own company, Shaffer Electric, in 1968. In the summer of 1974, Bob and Marney Shaffer decided to move from Indiana to Colorado, renting out their Indiana farm. Shaffer Electric had a rocky start in Colorado, but started growing in 1976 doing government electrical jobs. The Shaffer family also came together to start a health club venture called the Nautilus in 1983 and Father & Sons Construction in 1988. Bob & Marney's business endeavors struggled in Colorado and so they decided to move back to Indiana in 1989. Though they had their difficulties, their entrepreneurial spirit and tenacity live on in their son and grandsons.
Their son, Joseph Shaffer, worked for Shaffer Electric for many years, as well as other electrical contractors. His strong work ethic and ambition proved successful and Joe eventually started Advance Electric in 1991. He kept the company small, but built strong commercial and residential relationships over the decades. He would bring his sons to jobs in the summers and after high school Daniel began the electrical trade full time. Shawn went a slightly different route, obtaining his homebuilders license for residential new construction and remodel work, as well as real estate investing.
In 2024, Joe decided it was time to start thinking about retirement. At this point, Daniel had been a journeyman electrician for over a decade and obtained his Masters license in order to take over the family business. The boys collaborated together, with Daniel carrying the license and managing the jobs, with Shawn contributing to the backend business operations and financial side of the company.
Although the company name has changed through the years, the legacy of this third-generation company has remained consistent and steadfast.
